Why ReadingWrite?

Through personal and professional experience I have found that often children with learning difficulties may struggle to engage with their immediate environment and the wider community. I aim to assist them in learning valuable information that is necessary to gain independence both now and into their futures.

I am both a dyslexic and a mother of three children who have all had different learning difficulties. I have experience first hand the trauma of feeling as though you will never be smart enough. And I have watched my children suffer the torment. I understand what it means to be standing in your shoes.

A while ago I embarked on a journey to help my middle child learn to understand his surroundings. At the end of his prep year we found that he wasn’t achieving the things the other kids were and he was really struggling to be engaged at school. At home he was emotional and was unable to express his needs. We had his skills assessed by a clinical psychologist and found that he was dyslexic. This started me searching for someone who could help me help him. We found an exceptional literacy consultant who took my son through the Cracking the ABC Code reading program.

We were completely blown away by how effective the program was and how quickly our son went from not being able to read most words. To being about to read any word he wanted. Regardless how long and how complicated it looked. He went from three words on a page to early novels in a manner of months. Now he drives us crazy by finishing books inside half an hour!

I was so impressed with the program I decided I needed to understand how it worked and completed the training for the first time. I then spent the next couple of years telling anyone I could about how amazing the program was and that if their child was having difficulties they had to do it with them.

12 to 30 week programs

  • Suitable for students with diagnosed and undiagnosed dyslexia as well as those who are just struggling to learn to read and spell.

  • Average improvement in a 12 week program for students struggling with literacy including diagnosed dyslexia → 1 year in spelling and reading → some students have improved by more than 5 years

  • Based on current research (phonic based, systematic and structured, multisensory, using a range of memory strategies)

  • Easy to use with detailed instructions

  • Successfully completed by hundreds of students (from 6-50 years of age) and used by teachers in Australia,  New Zealand, Thailand and the USA

A little further down the road and after many discussions with my husband and friends and family, I made the decision to start my own business helping other kids like my son, learn to love literacy and to feel the joy of being able to access all areas of their community independently.

There truly is nothing like hearing your child who has struggled for so long, call out the road signs and shop names as you drive by. If only we could capture these innocent moments in time.

I strive to build a love of literacy and help build each child’s self confidence to allow them to function in their community unaided and no longer hindered by limited literacy.

Often the children accessing my services have difficulties:

  • With executive functioning (struggles to organise materials and/or work to a schedule)

  • Their ability to transfer information for one situation to the next

  • Showing confidence to engage in social situations

  • They lack the necessary skills to access the wider community
