Is ReadingWrite! a tuition service?

No, ReadingWrite! is not a tuition service.

We offer one-on-one intervention support for children struggling with functional literacy, our focus is not on educating our clients as this is the role of schools and the education system. We provide evidence-based functional literacy intervention programming.

Our consultants, work closely with parents and their child to identify the root cause of your child's difficulties with functional literacy and develop a personalised intervention plan to address those specific needs. We aim to assess the parent and the child to reach a level of functional literacy that allows the child to independently communicate with their peers and the wider community.

Who can ReadingWrite! support?

• Students finding it difficult to master reading, spelling, and writing despite school-based instruction.

• Students who are still struggling to grasp initial alphabet sounds and phonics.

• Students who have fallen behind their age group or are at risk of long-term literacy gaps.

• Students who refuse to read or write, or do everything they can to avoid school and homework.

• Students who become visibly distressed, emotional, or "fly off the handle" when asked to engage with reading tasks.

• Students who express feelings of being "stupid" or lacking intelligence due to their academic difficulties.

• Support for parents who are concerned about their child’s progress and require a clear diagnostic roadmap.

• Students who constantly tell you they are stupid or lack intelligence with academic skills.

• Students who misbehave to mask their underlying struggles and avoid being noticed.

How much will it cost to get my child reading if I follow your recommendations?

Stage 1: Clinical Consultation (Complimentary)

We begin with a 20-minute diagnostic briefing via Zoom or phone. This allows us to review your concerns, screen for functional barriers, and determine if our specialist intervention is the correct clinical fit for your child’s needs.

Stage 2: Specialist Diagnostic Assessment

If we proceed, we conduct a 2–3 hour intensive diagnostic battery (split over one or two sessions). This is a deep-dive investigation into phonological processing, working memory, and decoding mechanics.

• The Result: You receive a formal specialist report and a bespoke remediation roadmap for school advocacy and NDIS capacity building.

Stage 3: High-Intensity Intervention & Parental Coaching

Once the roadmap is established, we move into active remediation. Sessions are 50 minutes weekly, delivered via Zoom or in-person.

• The Model: We utilise a 'Co-Practitioner' model. Parents or carers participate in every session to master the specialist techniques required for the four days of home-based reinforcement.

• The Format: Options include Individual Specialist Intervention or Small-Group Collaborative Remediation, depending on the student’s functional profile and clinical needs.

How much time will I need to implement the intervention to help my child?

The Weekly Investment

• 1 x 50-Minute Specialist Intervention: A deep-dive session with a ReadingWrite! Literacy Consultant (In-studio or via Telehealth). This is where new phonological concepts are introduced and diagnostic progress is tracked.

• 4 x 30–45 Minute Clinical Reinforcements: These sessions are conducted at home by the parent/carer. We provide the specific intervention tasks and instructional coaching to ensure these sessions maintain clinical fidelity.

Projected Outcomes

• Standard Remediation Cycle: 12–15 Weeks (Typical for most students).

What if I'm not good at literacy myself? 

Our model is built for parents of all literacy profiles. You don't need to be an expert; that is our role. We provide the step-by-step specialist strategies and diagnostic cues you need to lead the home-based reinforcement. We are committed to an inclusive coaching environment where every parent, regardless of their own literacy journey, is empowered to drive their child’s success.

What if I'm neurodivergent? 

This is not a challenge in our view. We operate from a position of deep clinical and personal insight into neurodiversity. Many of the people we love are neurodivergent.   

What if I need more help / have questions between the sessions? 

Simply send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Otherwise bring any questions you have along to your next consultation and we will sort them out. 

How long will I have access to the material? 

All physical materials needed will be provided and are yours to keep with exception of borrowed reading books which are free to use while completing the intervention program.  

My significant other isn't supportive of trying something else in our home, should I still bother?

At ReadingWrite!, we don’t view literacy remediation as an 'extra', it is the development of an essential functional capacity.
